Acupuncture for tendon pain

When the sheath around a tendon becomes inflamed, simple movements catch and ache. We calm the inflammation and free the glide.

Understanding it

Tenosynovitis is inflammation of the sheath that surrounds a tendon, most often at the wrist, thumb or hand — De Quervain's tenosynovitis is a common example. The tendon can no longer glide smoothly, so movement catches and hurts.

It's usually driven by repetitive strain. Acupuncture reduces the inflammation and releases the surrounding tissue so the tendon moves freely again.

What we see

Symptoms we treat

If any of these sound like your experience, acupuncture is worth a conversation. This isn't a diagnosis — your first visit is.

01
Pain with movement
Sharp pain when moving the thumb, wrist or fingers.
02
Swelling
Puffiness along the tendon, sometimes warm to touch.
03
Catching or snapping
A catch or "trigger" as the tendon tries to glide.
04
Tenderness
Pinpoint soreness along the affected tendon.
05
Weak, painful grip
Pinching and gripping become difficult.
06
Repetitive-use onset
After lifting a baby, gaming, typing, or new tasks.
How it helps

Why acupuncture works here

Three layers at once — local, segmental, and central — chosen for what your body is asking for.

Releases the source
Needling around the inflamed sheath reduces swelling and brings circulation that helps the irritation settle.
Calms the nerve
Treatment eases the catching pain so the tendon can move without constant flare-ups.
Restores movement
We guide load and rest so the sheath recovers and the tendon glides smoothly again.
What to expect

From first visit to plan

Every patient gets the same unhurried four-beat rhythm — the first visit includes a complimentary consultation.

01
Consultation
We listen, palpate, and map the pattern — not just where it hurts, but why.
02
Treatment plan
A course of care that fits your pattern. You're never locked in; we re-assess each visit.
03
Treatment
Gentle needling, often with cupping or electro-acupuncture. Most patients deeply relax.
04
Aftercare
Simple homecare and what to expect next. We coordinate with RMT or kinesiology when it helps.
