Acupuncture for low back pain

Whether it's a sudden seize-up or a years-long ache, low back pain almost always involves muscle, disc and nerve together. We treat all three.

Understanding it

Low back pain is one of the most common reasons people come to us — from a sudden lumbar strain after lifting, to a disc that flares with sitting, to a dull ache that never fully left.

We look past the spot that hurts. The lumbar spine, the deep core, the hips and the nerves all share the load, and lasting relief usually means addressing more than one.

What we see

Symptoms we treat

If any of these sound like your experience, acupuncture is worth a conversation. This isn't a diagnosis — your first visit is.

01
Acute seize-up
A sudden catch that locks the back after lifting or twisting.
02
Chronic ache
A low, persistent pain that worsens by the end of the day.
03
Stiffness
Hard to bend, straighten, or get out of bed in the morning.
04
Radiating pain
Pain that spreads into the buttock or down the leg.
05
Pain with sitting
Desk work and long drives make it noticeably worse.
06
Post-accident
Back pain following a motor-vehicle injury (ICBC active).
How it helps

Why acupuncture works here

Three layers at once — local, segmental, and central — chosen for what your body is asking for.

Releases the source
We needle the paraspinal and deep lumbar muscles that have gripped into spasm, releasing them and flooding the area with circulation.
Calms the nerve
Segmental needling modulates how the spine processes pain, calming both the local ache and any nerve pain travelling into the leg.
Restores movement
With the worst settled, kinesiology and Pilates rebuild the core support that keeps it from coming back.
What to expect

From first visit to plan

Every patient gets the same unhurried four-beat rhythm — the first visit includes a complimentary consultation.

01
Consultation
We listen, palpate, and map the pattern — not just where it hurts, but why.
02
Treatment plan
A course of care that fits your pattern. You're never locked in; we re-assess each visit.
03
Treatment
Gentle needling, often with cupping or electro-acupuncture. Most patients deeply relax.
04
Aftercare
Simple homecare and what to expect next. We coordinate with RMT or kinesiology when it helps.
