Acupuncture for knee pain

The knee rarely hurts in isolation — the hips, the quads, the alignment above and below all play a part. We treat the whole chain.

Understanding it

Chronic knee pain is persistent pain in or around the knee lasting more than a few weeks. It can come from cartilage, ligaments, tendons, or the muscles that control how the joint tracks.

We assess the joint and everything that loads it — hips, quads, calves and alignment — so we treat the cause of the strain, not just the sore spot.

What we see

Symptoms we treat

If any of these sound like your experience, acupuncture is worth a conversation. This isn't a diagnosis — your first visit is.

01
Pain on stairs
Aching going up or, especially, down stairs and slopes.
02
Pain with squatting
Discomfort kneeling, squatting, or rising from a chair.
03
Swelling & stiffness
Puffiness and a tight joint after activity or rest.
04
Clicking or grinding
Catching, clicking, or a gritty feeling with movement.
05
Giving way
A sense the knee might buckle under load.
06
Activity-related
Worse with running, hiking, or long days on your feet.
How it helps

Why acupuncture works here

Three layers at once — local, segmental, and central — chosen for what your body is asking for.

Releases the source
Needling the quadriceps, IT band and muscles around the knee releases the tension pulling the joint out of line and improves circulation.
Calms the nerve
Treatment calms the pain signal so the knee stops guarding and can move more freely.
Restores movement
Kinesiology and Pilates rebuild balanced strength so the joint tracks and loads correctly again.
What to expect

From first visit to plan

Every patient gets the same unhurried four-beat rhythm — the first visit includes a complimentary consultation.

01
Consultation
We listen, palpate, and map the pattern — not just where it hurts, but why.
02
Treatment plan
A course of care that fits your pattern. You're never locked in; we re-assess each visit.
03
Treatment
Gentle needling, often with cupping or electro-acupuncture. Most patients deeply relax.
04
Aftercare
Simple homecare and what to expect next. We coordinate with RMT or kinesiology when it helps.
