Autonomic Imbalance

Autonomic imbalance refers to a dysfunction in the autonomic nervous system, resulting in an imbalance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. This can lead to various physical symptoms, such as general fatigue, dizziness, headaches, and a feeling of heaviness in the head. There are two primary factors that can lead to autonomic imbalance. The first is the individual’s inherent predisposition to autonomic instability due to their physical constitution. This refers to cases where the autonomic nervous system is naturally more sensitive or unstable. The second factor involves external influences, with relatively minor involvement from internal factors. Environmental factors such as climate, geography, and living conditions can contribute, with psychological and social stress being particularly significant. These external factors can disrupt the balance of the autonomic nervous system. In traditional Korean medicine, the term "autonomic imbalance" does not exist as a formal diagnosis. However, practitioners assess the patient’s symptoms to understand the underlying imbalances and approach treatment holistically, integrating body and mind. Additionally, modern scientific research has shown that certain acupuncture points can help regulate autonomic function, allowing for effective treatment through acupuncture and herbal medicine.
